About the Fire Department

The Frenchtown Fire Department is a combination department made up of full-time and paid-on-call firemen. The Department Chief, James Grahek; Fire Inspector Josh Maddox, and Dispatcher/Secretary Mrs. Santa Iris Gilsdorf staff headquarters. Station 1 has the Department Captain, and Station 2 has a Department Lieutenant per shift on duty. Both Headquarters and Station 2 have at least two full-time men on duty 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, along with the Officer on duty.

The Department has four fire stations located in Frenchtown Township. Most of the Department firefighters have become Emergency Medical Technicians, Specialists, and Paramedics. We have 19 full-time firefighters and 14 paid on-call firefighters. (Paid on-call firefighters must live in the township and respond from their homes.) To be a POC they must live within the Township boundaries and apply at the township hall. They must then pass all testing requirements, then are sent to school to take Firefighter I and II course before they can run calls. They must be an EMT before running rescue calls.
